Cadder Rematch

Last friday night the boys from Cadder challenged the boys from the Wyndford for a re-match to kick off Cadder's Gala Day 2009. While the Cadder Boys were very well organised, the Wyndford remains undefeated with a 5-3 victory. Well done to Eddie McGonical and Tom for organising the teams.

Tennis

We have just completed our best tennis season ever!
We arranged three very successful competitions between Barrhead and Maryhill. The first competitions, held in Barrhead, found a stronger team in Barrhead. However, the following week when Barrheaders travelled to Maryhill, the Maryhill Team proved unstopable!

The final enjoyed 16 participants and definately demonstrated that Barrhead had a stronger team on the day. The results of the matches can be viewed here:-

Well done to all volunteer coaches, parents and particpants who worked so hard to make this year such a success. A special vote of thanks must go to the Active Schools Team in East Renfrewshire who promoted the activities with the Schools and communities as well as loaning us rackets, balls and pop up nets:- well done ER!
We are currently compiling the results of the questionnaires and will post them on the blog shortly.
Looking forward to a better tennis show in the autumn with additional locations added to the clan.

Basketball Results

The picture above illustrates the results from our end of session questionnaires. It collates how the coaches, managers and participants felt about the programme. The coaches thought that the programme made an excellent positive impact on their personal life and would have no reservations about recommending the programme to others. While they thought the programme was very good, their expectations were not completely met as it was difficult recruiting and retaining participants. Finally, the coaches thought that it was difficult to volunteer due to family, work and their leadership experience.

The managers thought the programme was very good and would have little to no reservations recommending the programme to others. The managers surveyed were those who operated the halls that we used.

The participants thought highly of the programme as well. They thought the programme made a good impact on their community and their personal lives. The programme had little impact on their school/work and we believe that this will change once larger organisations are able to support us better.

In general the basketball programme was successful and we hope to continue to deliver this session again next year.

Bball Final

Today we finished our basketball activities with Cadder putting in a strong preformance and Milton winning the Clan Title. The first match resulted in a tie, the second left Milton the clear winner and today's resulted in a close win to Milton. At half time and with only 1 minute to go, Cadder was in the lead by a point. However, at the end of the game, the Milton boys were able to be victorious with the final score being 32 to 31. Well done to all who participated!

Saturday 16 May 2009

Cadder and Milton have enjoyed the past 4 weeks of basketball with about a half dozen participants showing up regularly for training and about 8 for matches. The first match resulted in a tie 22/22 and the second with a clear win for Milton. The final will be held in the Kelvinhall and we are asking for a £2 donation form spectators to help cover costs. Cadder is coming on strong and with all the new participants, I am sure a great final will be had!

Arran Football Final

The football clan season has come to an end. This year the team consisted of Maryhill (Wyndford), Milton (the ARC) and Cadder. Our first match was held in Milton on Friday the 6th of March when Cadder played Maryhill with Maryhill winning (4-0). The following Friday night, Maryhill travelled to Milton to play Milton and drew 4-4. Finally, Cadder and Milton played in Cadder on Friday the 20th with Cadder winning 7-0. As a result, Cadder and Maryhill made it to the final with Maryhill winning 4-2.

The venues used were in Milton and Cadder that have not been used for years. A great deal of effort was made to get them back into a useable state. We would like to thank the support that Glasgow City Council extended in making this tournament a success.

This was the second year that ASAP ran the Arran Football Clan. Last year Possil and Wyndford made it to the final with Wyndford winning. To date, Wyndford is undefeated.

The picture attached illustrates the winning Wyndford crew.

Despite the rivalries and territorial issues, all of the events ran smoothly with three friendly matches being held on Friday Nights.

Our next session will be Basketball starting on Tue 21st of April held at Cadder Community Centre, the Millennium Centre in Possil and in the ARC in Milton. The training will be on Tuesday/Thursday between 4-6. After the first few weeks of training competitions will be arranged.

Following the basketball, in May/June, we will be running Athletics and Tennis. The Athletics will be held in Maryhill, Bishopbriggs, and Milton. The Tennis will be held in Maryhill, Kelvindale, Bishopbriggs and Barrhead.

If you need any further information, please feel free to contact me on:-

We are always looking for more support and volunteers are always welcomed.

All the best,

Stephen
